Want to invest in a peaceful retreat-like community? Dunning is worth a try.
Today I will discuss the real estate market in Dunning.
This is a fun follow-up topic for me to explore since Dunning was the first community I lived in when I moved to America from Poland.
In this article, I will help you understand Dunning real estate and assess which neighborhoods here will suit you.
What is the State of Dunning's Real Estate Market?
Although tranquil, Dunning is not a sleepy town. It’s a very active real estate destination.
Dunning is popular because it offers an array of conveniences and bargains in housing.
This Community Area 17 in Chicago, is home to 15,746 households.
The majority of these households (69.9%) are families.
And the barrier to entry is low so most residents buy and own their homes.
Given the greater percentage of families in Dunning, single-family homes dominate the real estate market in the area. Most of these are single-family detached homes also built between 1940 and 1969.
And 48.9% of households spend $75,000 or more on annual housing costs.
Single-family homes here consist of frame houses, Chicago bungalows, English Tudors, two-story houses, modern split-levels, raised ranches, and contemporary constructions.
Here you can enjoy wide open green spaces, separate yards with fences and back-alley garages, and well-maintained streets lined with mature trees. The laid-back atmosphere mainly comes from the presence of several sizable cemeteries and two large city parks.
For those looking for smaller quarters, there are condos and apartments.
Renters will have more options on the east end of the neighborhood, while those looking to settle down might prefer the clusters of small homes in the west.
According to Realtor.com, the median listing home price in Dunning is $375,000. The median listing home price per square foot was $232.
Now that you know a bit about Dunning real estate, let’s take a look at the different neighborhoods you can choose within the Dunning community.
Neighborhoods within Dunning Community
This northwestern Chicago community is an ideal location for families, college students, and young professionals.
I already explained a lot about the namesake neighborhood earlier so now I will just focus on Schorsch Village, Belmont Heights, Belmont Terrace, and Irving Woods.
-
Schorsch Village
This lovely neighborhood on Chicago's northwest side is filled with a dynamic and diverse mix of people and restaurants.
People walking their dogs, parents pushing strollers, and children playing in front yards fill the shaded streets of Schorsch Village.
The area's real estate spans from one-bedroom condos to multimillion-dollar homes with five or six bedrooms.
It’s also iconic for the 20th-century graceful English Tudor-style houses with their stylized roofs along Oak Park Avenue.
-
Belmont Heights
Just 13 miles northwest of the Loop, Belmont Heights has everything you need from the city without the hassles of congestion.
Hundred-year-old trees line residential streets and the commercial districts have ample parking spaces.
Residents enjoy going to cafés, coffee shops, traditional Polish and German eateries, pizzerias, and friendly bars and grills.
-
Belmont Terrace
Belmont Terrace is surrounded by greenery and calm residential streets.
Sandwiched between several huge park-like cemeteries and one of the city's largest forest preserves, feels more like rural woods than metropolitan.
Homebuyers can choose between traditional bungalows and more contemporary two-story homes.
Golfers also love Belmont Terrace's proximity to one of the city's top public golf courses.
-
Irving Woods
Irving Woods has more green space than the majority of Chicago neighborhoods put together.
You wouldn't expect to discover winding hiking routes through the deep woods in a city environment, yet Irving Woods has acres of trees and undeveloped areas within walking distance of homeowners.
Nature-loving Chicagoans who enjoy mountain biking and wilderness hikes are beginning to migrate into the region, injecting youthful vitality and boosting the number of expanding families into this tranquil neighborhood.
Conclusion
Dunning is a tranquil retreat from the fast-paced hubbub of the city. It welcomes people of all ages—from college students to young professionals to retirees— with its variety of offerings. Its diverse population lends itself to a wide variety of mouth-watering foods. Then the vast parklands make it very refreshing for people moving out of the city. And hosting Wright College and top-notch private and public schools, Dunning is perfect for people to live, work, and raise their families.
