If you want to enjoy metropolitan life with the simplicity of suburbia, Barrington would be an excellent choice for your next home.
Barrington is a region in Illinois that spans an area of approximately 107 square miles. It covers the following villages and cities: Barrington, Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, Port Barrington, South Barrington, Deer Park, Inverness, Kildeer, Long Grove, and Tower Lakes.
Today, I’ll focus on the places which primarily make up the “Barrington” region.
1.) Barrington
It is a small town with a big name, tucked away in the northwest suburbs. Much of this affluent village of about 10,000 people. It was incorporated in 1865. Following the war, it grew to include ranch houses, followed by a few subdivisions of two-story Colonials.
The Chicago Tribune recently reported that Barrington's limited supply of houses has driven up the median price to $410,000. Older homes are being demolished in favor of larger, more expensive ones. Moreover, Barrington has progressed from a farming community to a prosperous, upscale community. Miller Park's spinning barrel, which tossed small children around like socks in a dryer, is no longer in operation.
The crowning glory of Barrington is its school system, which consistently ranks in the top 20 of Chicago-area high schools on the ACT. Children seize opportunities to excel in academics, the arts, and sports. Barrington High has produced more than its fair share of high-achieving students.
2.) Lake Barrington
Lake Barrington is home to over 3900 residents that enjoy modern conveniences and natural beauty. This includes the Good Shepherd Hospital, the area's primary healthcare facility, and Wagner Fen, a 100-acre state bird sanctuary.
Lake Barrington residents can enjoy fishing, boating, sailing, swimming, and sandy beaches. For other outdoor activities, there is a private three-mile pathway around the lake winding through 36 acres of forest preserve as well as multiple tennis courts – both clay and asphalt. They also have premier access to the Lake Barrington Shores Golf Club, a recreation center, indoor and outdoor pool, fitness center and so much more.
Lake Barrington Shores has 12 miles of winding streets lined with frame townhomes and condos. Lake Barrington Shores is a gated condo and townhome development with 1,350 units on a mile-long Barrington Lake. Wetlands dominate in several low-lying areas along River Road. However, because this is hilly terrain, there is high ground nearby that has given way to several new housing developments.
3.) North Barrington
North Barrington now has about 3,000 residents living in about 1,100 homes, with two country clubs on a little less than 5 square miles. Lake County, Illinois encompasses the entire village. The majority of homesites are in Cuba Township, and thus in Barrington School District 220.
The availability of paramedic and fire protection services varies by location within the Village. Wauconda Fire District serves homes north of Miller Road, while Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District serves homes south of Miller Road. Hence, your safety is indeed secured and guaranteed as both fire protection and police departments are convenient to access and visit when needed.
Biltmore is a country club with a golf course surrounded by homes that first opened in 1926. Honey Lake is a 55-acre lake open to Biltmore Country Club members and Biltmore-area homeowners for swimming, boating, and fishing.
Another promising neighborhood located in North Barrington is Wynstone, a big and very high-end gated community. Not to mention, the number of celebrities crowding the community with their undeniably fancy lifestyle. Established in 1989, Wynstone is home to a 750-acre rolling landscape that includes woodlands, wetlands, ponds, and 120 acres of lakes, as well as a highly recognized Jack Nicklaus Golf Course. It is managed by Wynstone Property Owners’ Association.
Within Wynstone, there are 437 homesites, comprising 327 estate residences, 80 maintenance-free homes, 8 Golf Villas, and two commercial office parks. Wynstone’s residential development and recreational amenities have been expertly integrated into the natural surroundings to create a model community with a "unique and distinctive" quality of life.
4.) Port Barrington
Port Barrington is a Chicago suburb with a population of 1,676 people. Port Barrington is located in Lake County and is considered one of Illinois' best places to live. Residents of Port Barrington enjoy a rural lifestyle, and the majority of residents own their homes.
New home development is the result of middle- and upper-class residents moving in, lured advantages as they leave neighboring or distant locations for bigger pieces of land.
There are numerous parks in Port Barrington. And its main attraction is the Fox River - which is great for boating in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.
Trails, picnic shelters, a youth group camping area, open space for outdoor recreation activities, bathrooms, drinking fountains, and a marina with boat berths, a public boat launch, and dry storage are all located along a calm portion of the Fox River. It is the kind of life one would dream of having by the time they retire from work. Life on the river banks is as exciting as how it is usually depicted in the movies. The serene sound of the water flowing, the tranquil mornings, it’s a paradise! In Fox River, you can enjoy boating, boat parades, and winter snowmobiling.
Yes, they do launch boat parades yearly. Moreover, heavy snowfall and consistently below-freezing temperatures have boosted revenue for businesses along the lower Fox River, which are benefiting from the increased snowmobile traffic.
5.) South Barrington
Talk about big properties, South Barrington has one of the bountiful properties that are huge! And when I say huge, it includes horse farms, on about 6-acre lots. From condominiums, multi-family homes to single-family homes, South Barrington has it all.
South Barrington is the 346th largest community in Illinois, with a population of 5,077 people and two-component communities. It also has a conservancy area called South Barrington Conservancy which was made for the benefit of all South Barrington residents To connect the wetland and upland areas so that both conservation and enjoyment of this unique natural place is possible.
Furthermore, the South Barrington Club provides a country club environment in a family setting: a racquet sports, fitness, and aquatics facility that is second to none. The South Barrington Club focuses on family recreation and enjoyment, as well as increasing sports and fitness performance and overall health.
South Barrington is an excellent choice for families with children for a variety of reasons. For starters, South Barrington is home to a large number of other families with children, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to form social bonds with other families as well as locate family-oriented services and communities.
